My brother has told me that most people hate leg day, but for me, I love it. It’s definitely a hard day, and I feel sore for days afterwards, but my thighs are one of my main complaint areas on my body.

For some reason, my legs get really big during my pregnancies. Okay, all of me gets really big, but my legs really do. I didn’t get stretch marks on my stomach either pregnancy, but I have them on my thighs, and even my calfs because of how big and swollen my legs get.

I’ve been too self-conscious about my legs to feel comfortable in a pair of colored pants. I feel like having colored pants would draw attention to one of the areas on my body that I’m most uncomfortable with. So this is why I like leg day. I want thinner, more toned legs, and I’m not gonna’ get ’em by skipping leg day.

Leg day benefits other parts of your body as well. My brother has told me that since your legs are the biggest muscle on your body, working them helps you burn more calories and fat. That sounds like a win-win to me.

I have recently re-discovered Old Navy. I never really liked their adult clothes, and would only shop there for my kids. But lately, I’ve found a ton of cute things there. Their prices are great and they offer coupons and rewards, which I love. They have some really cute work out clothes AND, they carry jewelry now too. How about that for one stop shopping?

My weight loss goal is to lose 1.5# per week, and I’m hoping that having a weekly update will give me a good idea as to whether I’m on track with that or not.

I almost cried when I got on the scale this morning, I was so excited. The last time I was under 140# was right before I got pregnant with my daughter, over four years ago.  This is a huge accomplishment for me and it feels great. Ten more pounds, here I come!


After last weeks weigh-in, I needed a little bit of perspective. Only losing half a pound was a little discouraging when I’ve had weeks where I’ve lost three. So, here it is. My son was born in April of this year, and the first weight that I recorded was 190# about a week after he was born. Thanks to the new mommy diet, i.e. not having time to eat, sleep, shower, think, etc. I got down to 163# by early July. That is when I started tracking my calories. Within a couple weeks I was down five more pounds. On July 22 I started going to the gym, along with counting calories. I had a body analysis done at 158#, which I talked about here. And now, six weeks later, I’m at 140#. So just to remind myself how far i’ve come, I’m going to break it down a bit.

April-July 2012 = weight loss of 27#

July – October 2012 = weight loss of 23#

Total weight lost since April 2012 = 50#

Weight still to lose = 12#

Out of all those numbers, 12# is the lowest. Twelve pounds seems a lot less intimidating when I realize I’ve already lost 50. I think it’s important to look back sometimes and remember how far you’ve come, instead of dwelling on how far you have to go. No matter where you are in your journey, look at every pound lost and every muscle gained, as an accomplishment.


So I talked about here, that having professional pictures taken once I reach my goal, is another motivator for me. These are a few looks that I have in mind for that photo shoot. My mom bought me this Anthropologie dress for my birthday, I’ve recently had my eye on some light pink jeans, and of course, the mint jeans that helped inspire my whole weight loss journey in the first place.

So, this was bound to happen at some point. I seem to have hit a bit of a wall. This week has been hard, both kids and I have been sick, and it’s been hard to make it to the gym. I’ve still been counting my calories, but this just goes to show how important exercise is. Hopefully we’ll all start feeling better soon and I can get back on track.


In my past attempts to lose weight, staying motivated has been my biggest problem. I have never stuck with it. This time, things are different. Motivation is going to be different for everyone, so you have to find yours, and it has to be something that will really keep you going.

A few of my motivators are;

FASHION! This is obvious by now, right? I’ve bought some clothes recently and I make sure I buy in sizes that are too small. I can’t wait to be able to wear these clothes, and not being able to fit into them, is a HUGE motivator. Also, there is a store in the Flatirons Mall called Bohme. They offer parties, where all the guests receive 15% off their entire purchase. They have a ton of colored jeans that I’ve had my eye on for a while, and I’m thinking about having a Bohme party once I get to my goal.

HEALTH. I want to be healthy, not just skinny. I want to be an example to my children. All of this is explained here.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES. My friend Taryn, of tarynbrooke.com, is an amazingly talented portrait photographer. She’s taking our family pictures this month, and I’ve talked to her about taking some ‘after’ pictures for me once I get to my goal. I took some ‘before’ pictures back when I was at 163 lbs, and lets just say that they were a little unsettling. So having some nice, professional ‘after’ pictures of myself is a great motivator for me. I can’t wait to see the difference in the pictures and to see how far I’ve come.

Also, this blog is a huge motivator. I’m not sure how many people are actually following along, but knowing that I’ve put this out there for people to see, keeps me going. Telling people what your goals are, makes you more likely to reach them. It keeps you accountable.
